What is “R-Value?”

Hi there,

I’ve been doing some looking around for new garage doors to replace the one I have now on my unattached garage unit. While I was looking at the doors my installer mentioned there is an “R-value” for each door and type. What is this value and how should I apply it when I am finding the best door for my garage?

    Hi there,

    The R-Value is what we use to measure the quality of insulation that is built into the door. This aspect of the door specs may impact your decision of door significantly;

    depending on how energy efficient you would like your garage door to be, R-Value determines how much of the controlled temperature from inside the house, to the exterior- and vice versa.

    For those of you with a separate garage unit unattached to the main house, this may not make a difference either way. However, if your garage door is attached you should at the very least be aware of how much energy the climate control will output to maintain a reasonable temperature.

    Best,
