Hello, i have an old wooden garage door and would like to know which spring fits my garage door and how to know the difference?
This is actually a fairly common question – however, I am sad to say there isn’t a one answer or rather one spring size that fits all wooden garage door.
Even if I were to assume we are talking about an 8ftx7ft garage door there are still many variation such as the door depth, windows (if you have any), struts installed on the door, whether we are talking about extension or torsion springs etc.
Furthermore, I cannot endorse you replacing the garage door springs by yourself because it’s a process that requires experience and some safety measures and can be dangerous if you lack the needed training.
When it comes to your garage door there are definitely many fixes / upgrades you can do by yourself but replacing spring isn’t one of them. I would advise contacting a professional.
Replacing a garage door spring is something you do once in a decade and thus should be (in my opinion) left to the experts.
